Saturday, May 14th starting at 8am

Roland Park’s third annual Native Plant Sale is Saturday, May 14th and begins at 8:00 a.m. The sale will last until all the plants are gone, which usually happens by 10:00 or 11:00.

UPDATE! Want to know what plants we will have?

Come early for the best selection, since quantities of some items may be very limited.

This year the plant sale will take place in front of the Roland Park Elementary/Middle School located at 5207 Roland Avenue, in Baltimore.

Hundreds of native flowers, grasses, ferns, and shrubs will be available. We will offer only species that are native to Roland Park or to the Piedmont and Coastal eco-regions of Maryland (Roland Park sits right on the boundary between the two regions).

And this year, for the first time, we will have a large number of plants which were raised from seeds specifically collected from the area. These plants, called “local ecotypes”, represent the absolute pinnacle when it comes to gardening with an eye to ecology and we are thrilled to be working with the non-profit Chesapeake Natives to bring these plants to Roland Park.

We will also have books for sale, including:

Armitage's Native Plants for North American Gardens
Attracting Native Pollinators: The Xerces Society Guide to Conserving North American Bees and Butterflies and Their Habitat
Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants, Updated and Expanded
Native Alternatives to Invasive Plants (Brooklyn Botanic Garden All-Region Guide)
Native Plants of the Northeast: A Guide for Gardening and Conservation
The New American Landscape: Leading Voices on the Future of Sustainable Gardening

The plant sale is hosted by the Roland Park Civic League as part of the Seven Generations II weekend. There will be a sustainability expo organized by the Civic League, a native plant tour organized by Blue Water Baltimore, a Garden Party organized by the RPEMS PTA Green Committee, and more.
